Are you a fan of Highlander movies and tv shows/series?

Did you know that its being remade or rebooted as some would say?

- With Henry Cavill as the lead and Chad Stahelski as the director, the Highlander revival has the ability to revitalize the series and build a new cinematic world.

- The involvement of the director is encouraging given his skill in creating engaging worlds and action sequences, as demonstrated in the John Wick films.

- The plot of the reboot may borrow ideas from the original film and television series, maybe focusing on the events that happened before "The Gathering," in which the last remaining immortals compete for supreme power.

The Henry Cavill Highlander revival has been in the works for a while, but recent developments indicate that the 1986 sci-fi/fantasy classic is taking shape, with a release date maybe in the near future. In the 1986 film Highlander, a Celtic warrior who belonged to an ancient race of immortals that fought one another over the course of millennia until only one was left standing—hence the oft-quoted phrase "there can only be one"—was the main character. The 1986 film Highlander served as the catalyst for a massive franchise that featured live-action television series, animated films for children, and theatrical sequels. The Highlander remake, meanwhile, has had a long history of failure; but, with some intriguing talent on board, things may finally be changing.

The director demonstrated his exceptional aptitude for developing intriguing and complex worlds of hidden societies and legendary warriors, as shown in the John Wick films. He seems like the perfect director for the Henry Cavill Highlander remake if you imagine him using the same approach to Highlander and adding his action expertise. He is teasing his approach to the mythology and what to anticipate from the extensive series in the most recent Highlander revival news. In a Highlander update, Chad Stahelski revealed that the new Henry Cavill Highlander film will draw inspiration from both the 1986 original and the television series to build a fresh narrative that is intended to be the start of a new franchise.

Confirmed Reboot

Although it has been in production for more than ten years, the Highlander reboot has been confirmed. Highlander's rights were initially purchased by Summit Entertainment in 2008 with a remake in mind. Initially, Justin Lin was slated to direct with the working title Highlander: Reckoning. Juan Carlos Fresnadillo, the director of 28 Weeks Later, left the film shortly after Lin withdrew in 2011

Since 2016, Chad Stahelski has been slated to direct, but he has been involved with the John Wick series. It appears like Stahelski's Highlander revival can finally get underway now that the John Wick film series has temporarily been put on hold. Highlander will be Stahelski's first film outside of the John Wick series. However, no official date for the Highlander relaunch has been announced.

Cast

Henry Cavill is the only actor in the Highlander remake cast who has been officially announced. Since 2021, Cavill has committed to the Highlander project, working with Chad Stahelski as director. Given that Cavill left his role as Geralt in The Witcher, it is simple to see him taking on the role of Connor MacLeod, another sword-wielding hero. The novel opens with Connor, a Celtic warrior who is secretly an immortal, residing in contemporary New York City.

It is simple to ascertain some of the other crucial roles that will be required for the film now that Chad Stahelski has confirmed that the Highlander reboot would have many of the same characters from the original. The barbarian Kurgan, who was portrayed by Clancy Brown in the original, is the major antagonist of the film. Who will play him in this remake, is currently unknown.

In the movie Highlander, Sean Connery portrayed Ramirez, an Egyptian swordsman who lived forever and taught Connor about the immortal species and their society. In the past, Tom Cruise was considered for the part. After their famous confrontation in Mission: Impossible - Fallout, it would be interesting to see Cruise work with Cavill once more, perhaps this time as a mentor figure. Seeing Cruise and Stahelski team together for some action scenes would also be exciting. But Cruise seems like too big of a star to have such a little part in a movie like this. So who will it be, is also unknown.

Storyline

In order to develop a fresh approach to the rich mythology of the brand, the Highlander reboot story would probably use parts from the first film. In the opening scene of the original Highlander, Connor MacLeod is introduced as a warrior in Clan MacLeod who was killed in combat with the barbarian fighter Kurgan. However, after the struggle, Ramirez finds Connor alive and completely recovered and explains that they both come from an ancient race of immortals who possess a power known as "The Quickening" that makes them immortal save for being beheaded.

Since an immortal can obtain The Quickening from another immortal they kill, it is revealed that immortals frequently engaged in combat throughout history. According to their legend, the remaining immortals will assemble for a gathering known as The Gathering, where they will engage in combat until only one remains, who will win "The Prize"—which entails absorbing The Quickening of all other immortals and attaining enormous power. The majority of the first film takes place in contemporary New York City, as Connor and Kurgan square off once more in a struggle for The Prize.

The Highlander offshoot television series clarified that there were other immortals out there so that the franchise could continue, even though the original movie concluded with Connor defeating Kurgan and presumably becoming the final immortal. When discussing how The Gathering was set up in the Highlander reboot rather than being depicted, Chad Stahelski seemed to recognize the same problem. This might indicate that the new series will be set in the past rather than in the present or that it will center on the conflict between Kurgan and Connor before The Gathering.

And there you have it.

Once again, I ask: Who is a fan of Highlander? I know I am; its one on my many fandoms that I love.
